MT4 Series Utility

The MT4 is LS Tractor's core utility tractor series, delivering 58–73 gross horsepower on a purpose-built utility platform. Available in ROPS and cab variants with Synchro Shuttle or Power Shuttle transmission choices, the MT4 is designed for operators running loader, hay, rotary cutter, and row-crop work on small-to-mid-size farms. The series spans from the MT46158/XU6168 generation (58–68 HP, 16×16 Synchro Shuttle) to the current MT463/MT473 (63–73 HP, with Power Shuttle option). At its price point, the MT4 competes directly with the Kubota M Series and John Deere 5E Series at a substantial cost advantage.

⚙️

LS L4C25-T Turbocharged Engine

The MT4 series runs the LS L4C25-T — a 4-cylinder, 152.85 cu in (2.504L) turbocharged diesel engine rated at 63 HP (MT463) or 73 HP (MT473). PTO output is 54.1 HP on the 63 HP variant and 62.9 HP on the 73 HP variant. Both meet Tier 4 Final emissions standards with a 2,500 RPM rated speed and a 24.3 gallon fuel tank that supports extended full-day operation without refueling.

  • •MT463: L4C25-T — 63 HP gross, 54.1 PTO HP, 2,500 RPM rated
  • •MT473: L4C25-T — 73 HP gross, 62.9 PTO HP, 2,500 RPM rated
  • •4-cylinder, 152.85 cu in displacement, Tier 4 Final compliant
  • •24.3 gallon fuel tank — full-day operation on a single fill
  • •Wet, multi-disc brakes and hydrostatic power steering standard
🎛️

Synchro Shuttle or Power Shuttle — 16×16

Every MT4 model comes with a 16-forward, 16-reverse gearbox, with the choice of Synchro Shuttle (standard models) or Power Shuttle (PS/CPS variants). The Synchro Shuttle uses a mechanical shuttle lever for direction changes, while the Power Shuttle's electro-hydraulic clutch pack handles direction changes under load — preferred for intensive loader work and repetitive forward/reverse tasks. Both deliver the full 16×16 gear spread for precise ground speed matching across implements.

  • •F16×R16 transmission on all MT4 variants
  • •Synchro Shuttle (MT463/MT473): mechanical shuttle for reliable simplicity
  • •Power Shuttle (MT463PS/MT473PS/CPS): electro-hydraulic direction change
  • •Power Shuttle enables direction reversals without stopping under load
  • •Independent PTO: 540 RPM and 540E (economy) speed standard
🏗️

Category II Hitch and 21.1 GPM Hydraulics

The MT4 uses a Category II 3-point hitch with 3,483 lb lift capacity and extendable lower links for straightforward implement hook-up across the standard Cat II implement range. The hydraulic system delivers 21.1 GPM total flow (14.5 GPM implement + 6.6 GPM steering) with position and draft control. Two pairs of front and two pairs of rear remote valves are standard — no add-on cost for implement connectivity.

  • •Cat II 3-point hitch: 3,483 lb lift (@ 24 inches from hitch end)
  • •Total hydraulic flow: 21.1 GPM (14.5 implement + 6.6 steering)
  • •2 pairs front + 2 pairs rear remote valves standard
  • •Position and draft control standard
  • •Extendable lower links for simplified Cat II implement attachment
🚜

LL5001 Front Loader — 3,488 lb Capacity

The MT4 is designed to mount the LS LL5001 front loader, which lifts 3,488 lbs and reaches 132.9 inches in maximum height mode — enough clearance to load a standard grain truck or fill a feed wagon. The loader includes a standard self-leveling bucket and a joystick mounted on the fender for ergonomic single-hand control. A 3rd function button on the joystick is standard for grapple or hydraulic top-and-tilt bucket operation.

  • •LS LL5001 loader: 3,488 lb lift capacity
  • •Max lift height: 132.9 inches (max height mode)
  • •Standard self-leveling bucket included
  • •Fender-mounted joystick — ergonomic, reduces operator fatigue
  • •Standard 3rd function button for grapple and hydraulic attachments

What Owners Say

  • •At 68 HP open station, the XU6168 targets the Kubota M7060 and John Deere 5075E without the premium pricing — LS delivers comparable specifications at a meaningful discount
  • •60 PTO HP is strong output at 68 HP gross — the 4-cylinder L4C25-T is efficient and consistent in PTO-intensive applications like large mowers and grain augers
  • •Fender joystick, 2 remotes with detent, work light, and drawbar are all standard — no dealer adder cost for features competitors often charge extra for
  • •4,079 lb Category II lift handles large round balers, disc harrows, and 3-point grain drills without strain
  • •Open ROPS specification — owners who anticipate wanting a cab should consider the XU6168C at purchase time to avoid costly retrofit later
